Possible Transmission Problems??

Post by bama52 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 2:30 am

Hi - I have a 2000 S80 with possible transmission problems. A highly recommended transmission shop (recommended by my Volvo dealer) can not find anything wrong.

BUT - there is something wrong. Twice my car has stopped - when the accelerator is depressed the engine revs but only slightly and the car will move at about 8 - 10 miles per hour - in any gear. For a a few minutes it idles in surges, then stops and drives smoothly.

The first time this happened, the dealer advised me the transmission fluid could need changing, and if this was the case, changing the fluid would result in either repairing the problem or else point to a new transmission.

The fluid was changed and the problem stopped. Now, about 9 months later it has happened again.

The techs have driven the car several times, in all kinds of situations and the problem has not recurred. The diagnostics have not revealed any kind of problem.

Tomorrow he is going to attach a portable scanner and drive it up some very steep hills.

Has anyone had this or a similar problem??

Thanks!
