VOLVO UNABLE TO SELECT GEARS

[XC90]

The inability to select gears on manual transmission cars can often be attributed to failed clutch components. Other things could be a faulty transmission, clutch fork or bearing not assembled correctly, a bad pressure plate, or the bolts holding the pressure plate to the flywheel could be loose.
Some transmission have fingers that the gear selector clicks into to pull it out of gear. If that finger was broken off there is no way to get it out of the gear that its stuck in without replacing the bad part. This is a common problem due to improper shifting and "slamming" gears.
